One Bad Roll by Alyssa Grace Rogers

“One Bad Roll” is a piece based on the board game Chutes and Ladders or Snakes and Ladders. It is a direct reflection on the shared experience communities of color have in America. In a world where racism is prevalent and used to make laws, one small wrong decision can feel like your life is falling apart while white Americans get let off easy for the same mistake. From getting caught with an expired license or small amounts of non-addictive substances, people of color are often in fear they will be sliding down a large snake to rock bottom.
