In the artist words: I created a painting that honors undocumented mothers that leave their homeland to start a family somewhere else in hope to give their kids a better life. My mother inspired me, as she was pregnant when she was crossing the border. This piece is also about honoring the creative energy and traditions being passed on from generation to generation with the embroidery on the canvas. So much knowledge was lost due to colonization but traditions like embroidery still remain and are prominent in Mexican Culture. The tear on the canvas is not completely stitched up and the needle is there, one can assume I will be back or someone else can stitch it up and finish what I started. Which reminds me of what tradition is.
