The People's Art

CULTURE IS POWER PROJECT

The Culture is Power Project empowers and collaborates with local artists and cultural partners to redistribute cultural power by uplifting or reshaping narratives and stories of the local community. This project honors the creative power of local artists and empowers artists to create art connected to a social issue in their community. For this project we are collaborating with Drive Michigan Forward, a coalition of immigrant rights advocates fighting to restore driver licenses for all Michiganders, regardless of immigration status. By engaging with creatives to advocate for a social issue in their community through their artwork, we are providing a platform for real, on-the-ground voices to be represented. We hope that by creating this project at the intersection of art and politics, we will reach communities in a way that touches their heart by allowing them to see themselves in the works of art to motivate them to action. Finally, we are grateful to have partnered with community-rooted cultural organizations like Inside Southwest Detroit and Garage Cultural.

CREATIVE PIECES

FUND OUR FUTURE ART SERIES

In partnership with Amplifier this series was created calling for our futures to be intentionally invested in! in times of uncertainty, art serves as a bridge that can unite movements with shared values in ways other mediums cannot; it is a catalyst for shaping change. It gives us symbols to gather around to activate our folks. With this series, we uplift our shared values and point to the future we need for future generations. These art pieces are meant to spark the imaginations of our communities and affirm that we know what is best for us because we have lived experience. We hope you use this artwork for community events, digital outreach, protests, rallies, and more!
