OUR MISSION

Waasamowin, a collaborative chapter consisting of three counties in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, by We The People Michigan believes that no matter who you are or where you come from, everyone deserves clean, affordable, reliable energy, real choice when it comes to how we power and heat our homes, and a democracy that works for our communities, not utility executives and their shareholders.

CORE COMPONENTS

Education & Skill Building:

Monthly Chapter meetings, local team meetings, training, coaching, talking circles, and workshops.

 

Policy Development:

Hands-on experience in creating policy proposals that address energy policy and the impacts on Indigenous communities, multi-racial, and working class people in Michigan.

 

Action Training:

Training in media engagement, community organizing, and educating lawmakers to prepare participants for effective action.

Raise Awareness: Highlight the disproportionate impact of an unsustainable, unaffordable, and unreliable energy system on Indigenous, LGBTQ, and Rural communities in Michigan.

Build Capacity: Equip Indigenous people, LGBTQ, and working class people with the tools to influence energy work at tribal, local, and state levels.

Foster Inclusive Policy Making: Advocate for the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives and knowledge in Energy resiliency policies.

Strengthen Communities: Empower Indigenous, LGBTQ, working class people in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to become leaders in their communities, driving sustainable and culturally informed solutions to Energy challenges.
